The Electric Vehicle Association Northern Ireland (EVANI) welcomes the return of the Northern Ireland Assembly. We understand the new Executive has many local issues to address including the challenges in providing low-carbon and sustainable transport. EVANI firmly believes the most effective method of reducing Northern Ireland’s carbon emissions from transport is to increase the use of electric vehicles.
On behalf of our corporate and private members, we will continue to address some of the local challenges to using electric vehicles. This will include engagement with many of the new ministers and departments of the Executive. Electric vehicles are a cross-cutting topic with many departments having a role in their further development.
Important areas to our members, we aim to discuss with new Ministers and departments include:
- Socialisation of grid connections
- The adoption of smart electricity meters to bring agile tariffs etc
- The adoption of a policy to allow charging cables to cross the pavements
- Reform of planning regulations to allow permitted development of chargers to include power cabinets
